The game, which is a puzzle featuring a variety of birds trying to rescue their eggs from evil pigs, has a following which includes British PM, David Cameron, has won the title of ‘Best Game’ and ‘App Of The Year’ at the Appys, an awards night for innovative mobile apps.
‘It’s been just amazing,’ Rovio spokeswoman Oona Hilkamo said.
And that’s not all the good news its makers Rovio have had. Just recently, they received a $42m investment boost and plan to build a whole franchise including a movie, around the Angry Birds phenomenon.
‘It’s been a great year for us,’ Hilkamo admitted.
Other winners at the UK awards hosted by Top Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, was Facebook, which was officially named ‘Best Time Waster,’ while Amazon got a nod for ‘Best Lifestyle’ app.
This news comes as mobile apps are now set to make users happy in other ways, by testing moods and offering advise tips to de-stress, currently being tested, according to researcher at Intel Labs.
Skype and music service Spotify also got recognition from the 30,000 users who voted for their top apps.
