Struggling consumer electronics company Creative, is planning to take on the highly popular, but expensive, Sonos wireless music system, with the introduction of a low cost wireless distribution system for music and wireless content.
Applications made in the USA to the FCC reveal a competitor for the Sonos ZonePlayer.
Called the Sound Blaster Wireless MultiPlay system the device can attach directly to a PC and share its audio over 2.4GHz RF wireless to stereo speakers. Creative, who developed the Zune player, is also developing software for use on the iPad and iPhone and via Android-based devices including the new Samsung tablet.
The new Creative Wireless Touch Control is very similar to the Sonos CR100, however it eliminates the need for a Sonos ZoneBridge
Electronista said that regardless of the platform, X-Fi badging hints any audio will likely go through some post-processing to restore some of the lost detail from compressed MP3s and similar files.
Despite the existence of a manual, there’s no clues as to when the Wireless MultiPlay will be ready, although a manual usually means the hardware is in its later stages and could launch soon.
