D-Link is set to use their new Covr brand to take on Google Wi Fi in Australia after the big search Company stripped market share from all network vendors in the last quarter.
According to Graeme Reardon the new mesh Wi Fi range which will launch in March will be “price competitive” and faster than the Google offering.
The Covr line, supports a scalable mesh WiFi network and is designed to be easy to install.
Two distinct Covr models will be available in Australia.
The dual-band COVR-C1203 and the tri-band COVR-2202 uses three units to extend Wi-Fi coverage in a house. The former transmits using the AC1200 standard, while the latter uses the faster AC2200. Both feature MU-MIMO technology to handle large groups of users.
The higher-end tri-band model, comes with two routers amplified to cover up to 564 square metres of space, and includes built-in compatibility for Amazon’s Alexa. The dual-band model, on the other hand, includes three pods to cover 464 square metres.
According to Rerdon the introduction of a new brand delivers for D Link the ability to compete with Google’s Wi Fi ofering while also delivering for consumers a device that will be able to be configured with a new Covr powerline range which allows users to cover an entire house using a combination of powerline technology and their new Wi Fi devices.
