Dell has launched a new Ultrabook (XPS 14) and a more powerful 15.6 inch notebook (XPS 15).
Emphasis has been placed on design, encasing the computers with thin aluminium, coating their edge-to-edge screens with Corning Gorilla class and endowing them with multi-gesture touch pads and Chiclet keyboards.
Dell’s XPS 14 |
As standard, the XPS 14 features a 14 inch WLED display with a 1600×1900 resolution. It’s powered by a third generation dual-core 2.6GHz i5 processor, relies on Intel HD Graphics 4000 and has 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Users can nominate three memory options: a 500GB HDD, a 500GB HDD + 32GB mSATA SSD or a 512GB SSD drive. If the latter is nominated Dell’s chief blogger, Lionel Menchaca, alleges the XPS 14 qualifies as an Ultrabook.
Dell’s XPS family |
The 15.6″ XPS 15 has a Full HD WLED display, the option of dual (i5@3.1GHz) or quad core (i7@3.1GHz) Ivy Bridge processors, a Nvidia GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 1GB DDR5 and a hybrid 500GB HDD with 32GB mSATA SSD. It comes with a DVD-RW drive as standard, but this can be upgraded to an optional Blu-ray drive.
Both computers offer USB 3.0, a mini DisplayPort, HDMI out, a 3 in 1 media card reader, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11a/g/n WiFi and a 1.3MP webcam.
The XPS 14 and XPS 15 retail from $1,299 and $1,499 respectively and are available from JB HiFi or Dell’s online store.
