The connected home division of Belkin and Foxconn, Linksys has launched a brand new smart home mesh Wi-Fi system called Aware, a first of its kind motion-detecting network subscription service without a camera.
Initially available on all Linksys Velop Tri-Band AC2200 routers the Linksys Aware subscription service within the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app utilises the existing Velop Intelligent Mesh Wi-Fi network to sense motion without the need for a camera or any additional hardware.
The software subscription will cost $39.99 for a yearly subscription or $4.99 per month for iOS devices, while Google will be slightly cheaper per month at $4.79 and $39.99 per year.
Both plans come with a 90-day free trial period.
According to Linksys, ‘the Velop nodes communicate with each other 30 times a second – as soon as any interference in the WiFi signal is detected and recognised as movement, a motion alert is raised and communicated back to the user via the Linksys App based on the parameters they have set’.
The platform works by notifying users with ‘motion alerts’ when motion is detected by the Linksys Aware software that utilises the physical mesh Wi-Fi hubs of the Velop Tri-Band AC2200 routers.
Users can adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection from a scale of 1 to 12, with 10-12 being the highest sensitivity.
You can even schedule sensitivity levels for different times of the day, or per day depending on your weekly schedule.
Matthew Keasler, Linksys Aware Product Manager, is excited about the potential this platform has in changing the way people use their routers.
Keasler is anticipating Linksys to play a more significant role in the router revolution being the ‘first-to-market’ with motion-detecting Wi-Fi.
‘No longer will the router just be a device that enables Internet access in a home, it will be the cog that drives the smart home’.
