The Kindle Fire HD family includes the 8.9-inch 4G LTE model, a Wi-Fi-only model and a 7-inch Fire model. The first two have a 1,920 by 1,200 (almost) Full HD display, while the second features a 1, 280 by 800 (HD) display. The display has an advanced true-wide polarizing filter, allowing users to see the full spectrum of colour from all angles, while the laminated touch sensor is said to reduce glare by 25 percent.

Both will use a Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 processor, which Amazon claims outperforms the Tegra 3. Wi-Fi is also improved by using both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, using two antennas and MIMO radio technology. Sound will be provided by two speakers with Dolby Digital Plus processing. Storage is set at 16GB, while HDMI-out and Bluetooth rounds off the connectivity options.
The original Kindle Fire with a seven-inch display gets some updates, including a 40-percent faster processor, double the RAM and a longer battery life.
Amazon has also unveiled the newest version of its Kindle e-reader, the Kindle paperwhite. In addition to the previously rumored backlight and high-resolution screen, the new e-reader has 62 percent more pixels in its screen, Amazon claims the technology behind the backlit display is producing light in as even a pattern as one would see with ambient light.
The Kindle paperwhite’s display has a 212 pixel density, a large step up from previous generations. The patented light guide system scatters light evenly across the display, making it easier to read in a variety of locales. It also features a 25 percent higher contrast ratio than previous Kindles.
