DVD sales have continued to fall in Australia as consumers shift to online video platforms and pay-per-view downloads sites. Figures from Screen Australia show that sales continued to fall through 2010 and 2011, falling 12 percent and 25 per cent respectively.Blu-ray was the only form of more traditional media to grow – up 40 percent to $122.1 million – while DVD sales fell 30 percent to $748.6 million.

Blu-ray was included for the first time in Screen Australia’s analysis in 2008 when it accounted for around two percent of total value and 1 per cent of units sold.

However in 2011, Blu-ray accounted for 14 per cent of total value and 12 per cent of units sold.
