Edifier who has a reputation for producing smart looking sound gear for PCs and home theatres has moved into the high end headphone market with the acquisition of Japanese headphone maker Stax.In Australia Stax headphones are distributed by Audio Marketing, a division of Len Wallis Audio.
During an exclusive interview with ChannelNews at CES 2012, the President of Edifier WenDong Zhang said that the demand for headphones was set to grow and that his Company “had to” move into this market if it was to capitalise on the growth that retailers were experiencing from the headphone category”.
“Stax is a high end headphone Company if not the best in the world and we intend to keep it that way. We will invest in the Company’s growth while introducing new marketing opportunities” he said.

“Initially we will work with Stax in expanding their existing business we also plan to create a new brand that will appeal more to the mass market as people are demanding better sound from their headphones. Stax have the knowledge and the capability to deliver a brand new range for us”.
According to Len Wallis of Len Wallis Audio in Sydney Stax produce the best headphones in the world. “At the moment we are seeing a lot of demand for headphones, consumers who have purchased an average pair of headphones are investing in premium headphones as they listen to more digital content” he said.
Edifier who has a reputation for delivering stylish new sound systems replaced Logitech last year at Harvey Norman.
At this year’s CES show the Chinese Company had an all-white stand where they showcased several new products including their award winning Spinnaker speaker system that took out the CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award.
The Spinnaker is an iconic looking speaker, standing at 15 inches the shape is designed to project sound towards the end user with front facing tweeter and mid-range drivers, reinforced with a downward firing subwoofer in each satellite.

The new speakers will available in Australia in the second half of the year via several retailers.
The Spinnaker which is Bluetooth enabled also has a wireless infrared remote control for volume control, track navigation and play/pause preferences. It operates with a 10 metre radius.
