The fifth release of iOS, unleashed last year, sold like hot cakes, Apple said at WWD 2012 conference in San Francisco Monday.
Apple’s senior vice president of iOS, Scott Forestall, also had a dig at rival Android in an apparent bid to pooh-pooh the green man success, saying just 7% of its users are run the most recent OS release, according to reports.
Apple boss Tim Cook also sought to awe the WWDC posse when he revealed Apple App Store now flogs an astonishing 650,000 apps on its virtual shelves, in all.
And Cupertino’s hook up with Twitter is also paying off: 10 billion tweets have been sent from iOS devices and close to half all photos tweeted today are coming from iOS 5.
But Apple have not won the OS war, just yet.
Android head Andy Rubin revealed yesterday the Green Man now has over 900,000 activations a day, via Twitter.
Android is now the top OS for smartphones, as confirmed by several analysts, helped by Samsung massive success with Android devices, globally.
