Japanese electronics company Epson has released a new compact laser projector it claims is capable of projecting bright, accurate colours without the need for a screen, even in daylight.
The Epson EF-100 (A$1,699) can project images up to 150 inches with a brightness rating of 2,000 lumens and 2.5 million to 1 contrast ratio, but is limited to a WXGA resolution.
Epson Australia managing director Craig Heckenberg said the projector “offers great functionality for users with its compact size and long-lasting and high-quality laser light source.”
The projector weighs under three kilograms and has a smaller footprint than an A4 piece of paper, but still requires mains power to run.
Epson claims it’s capable of projecting on almost any surface in almost any direction, with vents and power inlets located on the side rather than the back for increased flexibility.
The EF-100 features one HDMI input with a USB port for power, designed to cater for streaming sticks like Google Chromecast or Amazon Fire TV.
Bluetooth audio connectivity (with support for the higher quality, lower latency aptX codec) allows the EF-100 to function semi-wirelessly.
Audio is also available through a headphone jack and a built-in 5W speaker.
The EF-100 is available in white with silver trim (EF-100W) and black with copper trim (EF-100B) with what Epson is calling a “tactile, leather-like finish”.
The EF-100 projectors are available now from Epson’s website and authorised retailers.
