EXCLUSIVE: Philips TV’s are set to return to Australia after Sydney based distributor Tempo snared an exclusive TV distribution deal with TP Vision who is partnering with Philips to design build and market their range of TV’s around the world.
Four years ago Philips exited the Australian market a year later the Dutch electronics Company cut a deal with TP Vision to form a new consumer electronics Company that is 70% owned by TPV of China and 30% by Philips.
This year the Company has delivered several award winning TV’s, last week the Philips DesignLine 3D Smart TV won the 2013 Dutch Design Award for the best consumer product. This award winning TV is set to be sold in Australia via Tempo who was recently awarded the rights to sell the Hitachi premium refrigerator range in Australia.
This week Philips announced that they had appointed Adelaide based distributor Powermove to sell and market their full range of audio products including a new range of soundbars, standalone audio systems and headphones.
According to sources at Philips in Hong Kong local retailer Dick Smith who is currently sourcing Philips products directly from Asia could be forced to buy via Powermove.
In the TV market TP Vision has identified several ways that the Philips TV brand can gain market share in Australia especially in the premium end of the market where Philips is having a lot of success in Europe.
Tempo executive Ziad Yaacoub told ChannelNews that the Philips range of TV’s will be sold by Tempo in 2014.
The 2013 range includes budget models right up to the popular 9000 series which is a major seller in Europe.
Also in the range is the Philips UHD/4K 65PFL9708S 65-inch TV equipped with Smart TV features, 3D playback and a brand new processing engine that delivers what has been described as an “ultra-resolution” 4K image engine.
Philips claims the engine can improve the look of native UHD sources as well as delivering enhanced upscaling of HD.
The Philips 4K offering is tipped to be launched into the Australian market next year at sub $4,000.
