The boffins at Facebook have been busy developing a Facebook application that works on phones with Java. Named Facebook for Every Phone, the application will run on over 2,500 thousand Java enabled mobile phones.
Granting easy access to Facebook’s core functions, including the news fed, inbox and photos, the Java application can be downloaded directly from Facebook’s website or from a mobile’s native application market.
“Now you can add the Facebook application to almost any phone. That means finding friends and sharing the latest updates and photos is easier than ever” state Facebook on the application’s Facebook page.
With smartphone Facebook access being catered to by application markets, the Facebook for Every Phone app is designed for low end phones, making ‘dumb-phones’ a little bit smarter.
Facebook also say the application has been designed to be as data efficient as possible so that users aren’t hit with high data phone bills. In some European and Asian countries they’ve even teamed up with carriers to offer a 90 day period with no data costs.
Based on 3,879 reviews, the application has been awarded 4.2 stars (out of five), with users most users happy with its user interface and Facebook accessibility.
With HTC research revealing that 28 per cent of users check their Facebook account via mobile before they get out of bed, mobile is the direction online social networking appears to be going.
