The famed “blue screen of death” often associated with Microsoft computers could become a thing of the past. The screen, which appears when there’s been a programming error has often been the pain of Windows OS users, could be eliminated by the introduction of new patented technology.
According to TechFlash Microsoft has patented technology that would eliminate the need for computer users to download drivers for each device they connect to their machines. Drivers malfunctioning are a frequent source of the blue screen of death.
The new technology lets users plug in a device and go as opposed to having to download a driver each time a device is plugged into a Microsoft OS computer.
According to the patent application, the proliferation of devices and device drivers has caused the number of programming errors to explode exponentially.
TechFlash said in the description of the patent, usually a place for dry and difficult-to-understand technical terminology, this patent application says: “What’s bright blue that strikes terror into the heart of a personal computer user? It is the dreaded blue screen, which is caused almost always by programming errors.”
What’s also particularly interesting about this patent application is that it was filed Feb. 2, 2012, and was approved by the Patent and Trademark Office on May 31, 2012. The only way to get a patent turned around that quickly is to pay extra to expedite it.
