New generation Kindles have been selling like hot cakes for Amazon, which announced that more of the devices were ordered in the first four weeks of availability than any other Kindle launch in the same time frame. The new Kindles are being shipped to customers today, two days ahead of its planned release date.
Steven Kessel, senior vice president, Amazon Kindle, said Kindle has been Amazon.com’s best selling product for two years running. He said: “Readers are excited about all that the new Kindle has to offer.”
Amazon said the new Kindles have been ordered by customers in 125 countries around the world. Some of the most remote shipments will be to Mongolia and the Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific. The most popular books ordered by customers are Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, Star Island, by Carl Hiaasen, and The Rembrandt Affair by Daniel Silva.
The convenience of Kindle’s Buy Once, Read Everywhere policy on Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry and Android-based devices are also proving popular with customers. Amazon’s Whispersync technology syncs your place across devices, so you can pick up where you left off.
