Samsung will reportedly use its own line of processors in its flagship Galaxy S6 smartphone, having dropped the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor due to overheating issues.Bloomberg has reported people with direct knowledge of the matter as stating the Qualcomm processor overheated during testing, with Samsung opting against its use.
Samsung uses its own line of Exynos processors in a number of mobile devices.
The LG G Flex2 is among the next generation of smartphones using the Snapdragon 810, with Bloomberg reporting LG as stating there will be no issue.
“There will be no problem with the G Flex2 phones,” LG told Bloomberg in an emailed statement. “We are taking every measure to ensure there will be no overheating problem.”
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal has also reported LG as stating the heating issue has been addressed.
“Heat levels don’t depend entirely on the CPU (mobile processor), but also on how the phone’s internal cooling system is designed,” the WSJ reported Choi Yong-su, a vice president for LG’s smartphone development, as stating.
The move by Samsung could signal a shift away from Qualcomm processors as it looks to bolster its own processor business.
“It’s a chance for Samsung’s logic chip business to significantly boost its performance,” IBK Securities analyst Lee Seung-woo told the WSJ.
