Local pay-TV provider, Fetch TV, has secured a new deal with streaming giant, Netflix, featuring the roll-out of several quick search functions across the next six months.
With a relationship commencing from launch in March 2015, Fetch TV asserts Netflix remains one of its platform’s most popular services.
In a recent Fetch TV study, Netflix viewer usage was found to exceed all other ‘traditional linear channels’.
Netflix users were also reportedly more “engaged” with Fetch’s platform, ingesting an additional 22 hours per month.
Fetch TV is set to roll out several new features over the next six months, claimed to enhance subscribers usage of Netflix.
Like rival Telstra TV, Fetch plans to roll out a new ‘universal search’, allowing users to search Netflix results alongside free-to-air channels and other app content.
Searches can be conducted using Fetch TV’s remote control, or with voice control via Google Assistant.
Shaking up its existing user interface, Fetch TV plans to integrate a new dedicated Netflix preview row.
Later this year, the platform will also add a specific Netflix button on its remote control.
Future plans include the roll-out of an integrated payment process, providing subscribers with one bill for both Fetch TV and Netflix charges.
The new features reportedly follow a long “history of collaboration” between Netflix and Fetch TV. The company claims to have been the first Aussie set-top-box platform to support Netflix 4K.
