Fetch TV believes that foreign language content is a major opportunity for ISPs in Australia after being ignored by both free to air TV stations, Foxtel and other content providers.
Scott Lorson, the CEO of Fetch TV, is currently lining up foreign content from markets like India, China, Malaysia and Indonesia in an effort to tap into a 1.3 million strong market in Australia.
Currently Foxtel’s installed base is 1.3 million subscribers.
Fetch TV, which is 40 per cent owned by Malaysian company Astro All Asia Networks, believes that they are in an excellent position to capitalise on a market that has money and will be attracted to a dedicated foreign language content service.
“We believe that ISPs taking the Fetch TV service will in the future be able to offer their customers an extensive foreign language service. Australia already has a big population of foreign language nationals from India, China and other regions. This market wants home content and, via our shareholding with Astro All Asia Networks, we are in an excellent position to deliver this service”.
“The way in which we deliver our content via multicasting, is ideal, as it allows us to deliver an extensive service to these markets. There is a lot of content out there and we can deliver it”.
Lorson believes that IPTV services and the delivery of content to TVs is the future for broadband suppliers like iiNet who last week acquired AAPT.
He believes that Broadband services in Australia have peaked and that to grow their markets ISPs have to look to new markets and content.
