In partnership with Google, Acer has unveiled its new ‘Chromebook Tab 10’ – the first tablet to run only on Chrome OS. The new tablet is targeted at the education industry, and intended for use in classrooms.
Set to launch in the United States in April, the new Chromebook Tab 10 will retail for US$329.
According to DroidLife, the product will not be restricted for sale in the education space – mass market consumers will be able to purchase the new device.
Australian pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed for Acer’s Chromebook Tab 10.
In Australia, Acer has risen to market leadership for its supply in the education industry. The company has achieved considerable success for its Chromebook notebook range.
The new Chromebook Tab 10 features a front 2MP HD camera and 5MP rear camera, 9.7-inch QXGA IPS display (2048×1536), 4GB RAM and 32GB on-board storage [plus microSD reader].
The device is powered by a OP1 processor, which is said to the same within Samsung’s Chromebook Plus.
The new Chromebook Tab 10 comes with a stylus, and incorporates a USB-C port, headphone jack and Bluetooth 4.1
Acer clams the device will boast a robust 9 hour battery life.
In addition to running Chrome OS, the new tablet with run Google Play apps too. Just like its Chromebook counterparts, the tablet will provide access to the full Chrome browser and Google Drive.
Commentators speculate Acer’s new Chromebook Tab 10 could be the catalyst for other vendors to release similar Chrome OS tablets.
