Thinking outside the square is paying dividends for Fisher & Paykel who have challenged the conventional wisdom of the traditional triangle configuration between the stove, sink and fridge with a move towards modular designed appliances.
Its Izona CookSpace and DishDrawer Wide have been selected as finalists in the prestigious Australian Design Awards.
It’s not the first time the company has been chosen for its Izona range by the longstanding internationally recognised Awards. Both the Izona CoolDrawer and Izona CookSurface won awards in the consumer category two years ago.
This year the awarding body, Good Design Australia, received its highest ever number of entrants, with 232 innovative products being entered for the competition. Of these 127 products have made it to the finals.
The 900mm Izona CookSpace offers extra features including 9 cooking modes, a professional rotisserie and the convenience of a pyrolytic self-clean function.
Meanwhile the family sized DishDrawer Wide, at a roomy 900mm, features fully-adjustable racks to accommodate chopping boards, roasting dishes and those long utensils, so there’s no need for a separate hand wash.
Peter Russell, general manager marketing, at Fisher & Paykel said being chosen as finalists is “an affirmation that our products stand shoulder to shoulder with the very best that the world has to offer”.

For the first time, the award finalists will also be on public display from 21 – 24 July 2011 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton Gardens, Melbourne.

The winners of this year’s Awards will be announced at an event in Melbourne on 22 July 2011.
