The first trailer of the Great Gatsby has been released and reveals director Baz Luhrmann has dressed the flick in his stylistic flair, relating the 1920 period piece to modern audiences through music from Jay Z.
Leading a star studded cast is Leonardo DiCaprio, who previously worked alongside Luhrmann in Romeo+Juliet, and is joined by Toby McGuire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher.
The trailer depicts the film as being flamboyant, exuberant in colour and complemented by an R&B track from artists Jay Z and Kanye West. It’s a far cry from F Scotts Fitzgerald’s literary canon which has long been recognised as the great American novel.
Despite its glitz and glamour, it appears there is an emotional undertone inspired by DiCaprio’s character.
The movie was shot in Fox studios in Sydney for five months from September of last year. Unfortunately Sydney’s unpredictable weather delayed the project and contributed to the film exceeding its $100 million budget, but judging by its trailer, its likely to make it back.
More will be revealed about the film prior to its Christmas release.
