Demand for large flat panel LCD TV monitors is starting to fall with research group DisplaySearch forecasting a slow down in the first quarter of 2009. This is the first slowdown in 10 years.
Global panel shipments held at around 42.8 million units which is the the first time in the survey’s nearly ten-year history that volume has failed to grow between the second and third quarters.
According to DisplaySearch’s Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report, Samsung leads the category in market share with 15 percent, followed by Dell, HP, LG and Acer.
“Typically, brand shipments rise in Q3, as vendors load their regions and channels with products for the upcoming holiday season for consumers, as well as end-of-year buying from commercial customers,” the company’s vice president of PC and Large Format Commercial Displays, Chris Connery, said as part of the release. “Additionally, leading indicators such as panel production for such devices as well as contract-manufacturing OEM production also indicate that major brands are poised to ship even fewer LCD monitors in Q4’08 than in Q3’08.” That, also, would mark a first.
