Chargebar has the answer.
It has released an iPhone app allowing consumers to locate the nearest venue to recharge their phone or tablet battery.
And the “lightning fast charge” is free, meaning dead phones while on the town is a thing of the past.
The Chargebar app finds one of 70 venues housing the service in Sydney’s CBD and nearby suburbs, as well as ferries on the Manly route.
But its not just iPhones Chargebar will give juice to – it caters for 96% of smartphones so ‘Droids are safe.
However, it will be while before a similar app is released for Android although Cameron Tanner, ChargeBar Director told SmartHouse they are “working on it.”
Users find the correct charging cables and plug in for as long as they like.
The Chargebar app features addresses and opening hours of each location.
“Everyone today is completely addicted to their smart phones. To have a flat phone battery can be an absolute nightmare and a horrible, sinking feeling. There’s even a name for it – nomophobia!”, says Jonathon Tanner, Chargebar’s Managing Director.
Users can also propose where they would like to see more free-to-use charging stations by hitting the ‘Suggest a Venue’ button.
Chargebar says it is currently in advanced discussions with “large national hospitality and retail chains” and expects to boost its network by 500 to 1,000 venues across Australia in the next 3-6 months, and aims to have 10,000 by 2014 and hopes it will be “as ubiquitous as free WiFi.”
“Our venues absolutely love the service because 90% of customers will buy something while they wait for their phone to recharge” Tanner said, adding “and once they know the service is there, they’ll keep coming back to use it”.
