Nikon Australia is releasing three new lenses compatible with its range of FX-format digital-SLR cameras, and a new DX-format super-telephoto zoom lens that will be available in store next month.
With new features offering quiet operation and reduced vibration, they aim to appeal to a wide variety of users in a wide variety of applications.
The three FX-format lenses promise extremely quiet operation with Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and offer two focus modes, manual-priority autofocus and manual focus with an improved drive mechanism. An internal focusing system also means the barrel length does not change during focusing.
The AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G is a fast, mid-telephoto 85mm fixed focal length lens that combines a large maximum aperture of f/1.4 with natural blur characteristics to offer superior image quality.
The AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR is a 5x standard zoom lens with a fixed maximum aperture of f/4 throughout its entire zoom range. Nano Crystal Coat has been deposited on some lens elements for fine, clear images, and the lens is equipped with Nikon’s latest vibration reduction mechanism, VR II. The latter compensates for camera shake to the equivalent of shutter speed increase of approximately four steps.
The NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a 10.7x super-telephoto lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths from the wide-angle 28mm to telephoto 300mm. It is extremely compact and lightweight and offers two built-in vibration reduction modes, normal and active which responds to a variety of shooting scenes. A zoom lock has been adopted to prevent the lens from extending due to its own weight.

Last, but by no means least, is Nikon new AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR – a DX-format super-telephoto zoom lens which covers the 55 mm to 300 mm range of focal lengths and also offers Nikon’s latest vibration reduction mechanism, VR II, for simple and enjoyable super-telephoto photography.
This is Nikon’s first interchangeable lens with a high refractive index (HRI) lens element, and portability is assured despite it being a zoom lens, since it is very compact and lightweight.
This versatile model is said to be ideal for capturing the main subject at sporting events, indoor events or for travel photography, performing well even from a distance. Blur, caused by camera shake is significantly reduced, even with super-telephoto shooting, allowing users to shoot comfortably and focus their attention on photo opportunities.
This lens is compatible with the D3100 and D5000 entry-level Nikon DX-format digital-SLR cameras as well as high-end digital-SLR cameras such as the D300S, giving users the means to enjoy super-telephoto shooting and to expand their photography techniques and skill.
