Foxtel has made a port of its TV Guide for Android-run smartphones and tablets including remote recording functionality. The app that was originally released for iPhones and iPads allows Foxtel subscribers to view up to 14 days of TV programming on the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to record shows remotely onto Foxtel iQ boxes.
“The introduction of additional digital channels such as the Nine Network’s ‘Go!’, Seven Network’s ‘7Two’, Ten Network’s ‘One HD’ and 15 HD channels on Foxtel, have expanded choices and content available to viewers from both Free-To-Air (FTA) and subscription television broadcasters,” stated the Australian Communications and Media Authority in a study of video content distribution.
The subscription service has faced growing competition from the emergence of increased free-to-air channels on the back of digital TV, while IPTV download and stream services have posed the biggest threat.
Foxtel has been in the same market for some time with its Foxtel On Demand service and the company reported a 17 percent earnings growth over the second half of 2010 despite competition growing in the TV content market.
The free app has been uploaded to the Android Market for download.
