In an Australian first, Foxtel has announced it’s airing several winter sports games – NRL, AFL, Super Rugby and Women’s Football matches – in LIVE 4K Ultra HD across the coming months.
The coverage follows Foxtel’s ‘Summer of Cricket’ blitz, as the pay-TV provider seeks to become the 4K “home of sport.”
“The Foxtel in 4K Ultra HD revolution is just getting started,” asserts Chief Executive, Patrick Delaney.
Forthcoming LIVE 4K matches will broadcast on Foxtel’s dedicated 4K Ultra HD TV Channel (Channel 444), with no ad-breaks during play.
Coverage is facilitated via Foxtel’s most advanced streaming box yet, the iQ, with its 4K channel available to Platinum HD or Sports HD subscribers.
The pay-TV provider has continued to ramp up its 4K sports coverage, with Bathurst Supercars and Super Rugby recently showcased in 4K Ultra HD.
Foxtel has pledged to air over 40 NRL games, and more than 40 AFL matches in 4K Ultra HD.
NRL 4K Ultra HD coverage will commence on March 15, featuring the Knights versus Sharks.
AFL 4K Ultra HD coverage will start on March 23, pitting Melbourne against Port Adelaide at the MCG.
Foxtel affirms it’s the first time the two sporting codes have been aired locally in 4K Ultra HD.
Women’s Football: Cup of Nations will debut in 4K Ultra HD on February 28, featuring Argentina versus Korea.
Additional 4K Ultra HD sports include selected Wallabies games and the Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
Complete coverage of 2019 winter codes will also air in high definition on FOX SPORTS, FOX LEAGUE and FOX FOOTY channels.
