Foxtel has accelerated its 4K TV push, confirming this year’s Bathurst 1000 will broadcast on the new ‘Channel 444’ – the first event in Australian TV history to televise in 4K.
For the first time, users can watch the Bathurst 100 ad-free on both 444 (4K) and the standard Fox Sports channel, accessible via Foxtel’s Sports HD pack.
Announced in August, ‘444’ is Australia’s first 4K satellite TV channel, accessed via Foxtel’s new iQ4’ set top box.
Satellite delivery pledges to guarantee 4K picture quality, unlike NBN-facilitated video streaming.
Channel 444 claims to offer four times the picture resolution of standard HD, with Foxtel expecting a surge in subscription with the growth of 4K TVs.
The channel will commence telecasting in October, featuring a slew of live sport (e.g. cricket), documentaries, concerts and more.
Foxtel Chief Patrick Delaney affirms its conducted a “full test” during Sandown 500 last week, with the broadcaster ready to air the Bathurst 1000 in 4K.
“It’s fitting that we will ring in a new era in Australian television with an event as big as the action at Mount Panorama.”
