Executive Director of Foxtel, Patrick Delany, has said that he is not worried by the launch of FetchTV today in Australia. Talking to SmartHouse from Los Angeles, he said that Foxtel is in a “far superior position with more content and more exclusive content”.
“We expected FetchTV to launch with an unmetered service, but you only have to look at what Foxtel delivers. We have more exclusive programs, we have our deal with Microsoft via their Xbox 360 and we have sport. This is a far superior offering”.
Earlier today, FetchTV in partnership with ISP iiNet, launched a new $30 a month subscription TV offering, that comes packaged around a set-top box providing content similar to what Foxtel is already offering. HD Movies will be an additional expense.
Programs announced by FetchTV include the following channels, Discovery Networks, National Geographic, MTV Networks, Fox International Channels, and E! Entertainment Television, BBC World News, CNBC, ABC, Roadshow Entertainment, Disney Media Distribution, MGM, and content from Lions gate.
Last week Kim Williams CEO of Foxtel said that new promotions initiated by Foxtel had lifted subscription numbers he also said that “Churn” had slowed at the network due to user satisfaction with Foxtel content.
“We’ve had astonishing growth since our promotion started and it comes on top of good growth we had seen since March” Williams said.
The new Foxtel package offers a 50% discount on Foxtel’s normal $42 a month package for 6 months.
