Foxtel is set to add nine new HD channels to its satellite service under a new five-year agreement with Optus.The agreement will see Optus provide additional satellite services, with Foxtel to take up further capacity on Optus’ D3 satellite.
Foxtel customers with an IQ2 or MyStar HD set-top box service currently signed up to an HD package will have access to the nine new HD channels, including Arena, Fox Sports News and History.
This brings the total number of Foxtel HD channels available to 36.
With the battle for Australian media market share heating up – with digital media provider Netflix tipped to be eying a local launch in 2015 – Foxtel last month unveiled a number of changes to its pricing structure, designed to appeal to a broader customer base.
The new pricing and packaging structure is set to launch at the beginning of November.
“Foxtel has been an Optus customer for over 15 years and we’re pleased to continue working together to provide a broader variety of HD content to Foxtel customers across Australia,” Optus Satellite vice president Paul Sheridan stated.
