The service is available on any Telstra pre-paid and post-paid mobile, with customers being able to tailor and prioritise their text notifications, including selecting the regularity and number of messages they receive each day, as well as the times they wish to receive the messages.
Customers must activate their mobile service on Facebook by texting “fb” to 019832665 (0198 FBOOK) to begin receiving SMS updates. Users can also reply to a notification or create a new SMS to update their profile, which will be charged at the standard SMS rate as per their mobile plan
Telstra Consumer Executive Director Jenny Young said, “From today, our mobile customers can sign up to receive free SMS notifications every time a friend updates Facebook, including news on wall posts, comments, invites and messages.”
“Telstra’s new service is another example of how online and mobiles are converging in a way that means customers are choosing the best platform to suit particular needs throughout the day. People don’t need to wait until they get to work now to find out if their Facebook has been updated; they can be alerted on their mobile while they are out and about, and send an update straight back. We’re pleased to be the first in Australia to provide customers with such a service that’s compelling and relevant to them right now,” added Young.
