Sennheiser Communications has launched two new headsets aimed at home and tournament gaming.
Both 7.1 channel surround sound headsets use virtualisation technology from Dolby Headphone, which recreate soundscapes with more detail and depth, so the player can better pinpoint off-screen opponents and obstacles. The 360 degree coverage gives players the chance to hear footsteps behind a wall or detect where the opponent is coming from. They can hear a much wider area in the gamescape and stay one step ahead of the competition.

The PC 163D keeps players in touch with their surroundings and lets them enjoy a better airflow to the ears thanks to the open design. What’s good for gaming is also good for listening to music and movies. The PC 163D gives players everything they need for any type of multimedia application.
It also has an integrated volume control with mute that is really convenient. For a high-quality gaming headset, the PC 163D’s robust headband is refreshingly lightweight.
Professional gamer Christoffer Sunde explains the benefits of 7.1 channel surround: “Thanks to the fantastic multichannel experience, we can now pinpoint the in-game competitor just by the sound.”
The PC 333D headset is aimed at the tournament game sector, and is claimed to be game-changer. For FPS enthusiasts used to the basic sound orientation of 2 channel headsets, it’s a huge sensory jump – the equivalent of switching from mono to stereo and black & white to color at once.

Other features are equally impressive. Circumaural closed-acoustic ear cups immerse players deeply in the game but a convenient swivel DJ Hinge makes it easy to talk to the outside world. The PC 333D also has intuitive controls and a professional noise canceling microphone that automatically mutes when you raise the boom.
In-game communication with teammates is just as comfortable and intuitive. The volume control is located directly on one ear cup for easy access and there’s a professional-standard noise canceling microphone that makes for surprisingly clear chat and calls, even at raucous LAN events.
Sennheiser Communications’ tie-in with the world-class gamers at mTw clearly had a big influence on the professional look and feel of the PC 333D. The ultra-realism of the 7.1 channels is enhanced by the closed-acoustic design, and also houses excellent quality speakers. The overall effect is a much more intense and immersive gaming experience.
