Garmin and Disney have joined together to bring Disney Princesses to their popular children’s fitness tracker. The device is retailing for $129 and can be found online now.
The device, named vívofit jr. 2, is designed to be more than a basic fitness tracker with child friendly characters on it.
A spokesperson from Garmin explains that the device
“[K]ids will look forward to achieving activity minute goals to unlock app adventures, games and step icons featuring Disney Princess characters Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan and Rapunzel.
“[V]ívofit jr. 2 bands are swim-friendly, feature a customisable colour screen, and most important of all, boast a battery life of over a year”
The line of fitness trackers are a part of Garmin’s “Play like a Princess” campaign, which aims to inspire children to seek out physical activity.
The vívofit jr. 2 uses indirect measurements to foster this engagement according to Adam Howarth, general manager at Garmin Australasia: “Our kids’ activity trackers deliberately do not include features that count calories or track weight loss goals.
“Instead they focus on fun activities, games and even rewards for being active and helping mum and dad around the house with chores.
“Children and parents alike respond positively to products like the vivofit Jr.”
Disney also made announcements regarding the device. Senior vice-president, Games and Interactive Experiences, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products, Kyle Laughlin said “[b]ased on the initial success we’ve seen with Star Wars, Minnie Mouse, and Marvel Avengers on the vívofit jr. 2, we know that pairing Disney’s unrivalled characters and content with Garmin wearables encourages kids to get active.
“The Disney Princesses make a great addition to this line and their stories make for exciting interactive adventures.”
The device will help teach their children how to keep track of their responsibilities, with a chore tracker function that gives virtual awards for completing tasks.
The new character range brings all new activities to the device, with Disney Princes themed adventures coming to the vívofit jr. 2 and supporting app.
