Apple has just released iOS 5.0.1, meaning the Siri personal assistant finally understands Aussies.
Apple’s iPhone 4S has been plagued by battery issues which Apple has attributed to software bugs, insisting the issue affected only a small number of users.

However, it now says the update will fix the problem, after it was forced to rush through a second beta version of the update in a matter of days, after the battery problems were brought to light last week.
But the other main advantage the update will bring for Australians is Siri, the voice activated personal assistant, now understand users Down Under when they put vital questions to the iPhone 4S’ PA like “where is the nearest pizza shop?”
Previously, Siri, an American native, had trouble understanding some foreign tongues and appeared to many to be really only effective in the States.
The iOS 5.0.1 update “improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation,” Apple confirmed in release notes yesterday.
It also:
· Adds multitasking gestures for original iPad
· Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
The update to iOS 5 will hit Apple’s iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad, iPad 2 and iPod touch (3rd and 4th gen) and is free to download on iTunes.
