Google, which is looking to be a major player in the TV content market alongside Apple, has acquired Sage TV in an effort to expand the capability of its Google TV offering.
The HTPC software company has been developing media centre platforms for several years including the development of time and place shifting software.
A note on the Sage TV website says, “We believe our ideas will reach an even larger audience of users worldwide on many different products, platforms and services.”
While there’s no word on exactly what Google has planned, Sage TV has long included DVR and place shifting features that the Google TV product has lacked.
