Google Assistant To Be Removed from All Samsung TVs

X

From 1 March 2024 Google Assistant will no longer be available on Samsung TVs due to a change in Google’s policy.

Google is developing a new generative AI language model, Gemini, but it is not clear at this time whether Google Assistant ties into that project.

Samsung TVs that will lose Google Assistant include all 2021 and 2022 Smart TV models, 2020 8K and 4K QLED TVs, 2020 Crystal UHD TVs and 2020 Lifestyle TVs (Frame, Serif, Terrace, and Sero).

Google Assistant came pre-installed on Samsung Smart TVs from 2022, 2021, and 2020, while 2019 models only supported Google Assistant via an external device. Samsung started phasing it out with its 2023 TV line-up, and soon the feature will also be removed on older models.

Samsung has its own voice assistant, Bixby, but it is not widely supported due to limited language support. Samsung TVs are also compatible with Amazon Alexa via an external Alexa device.

For now, Google Assistant lives on in TVs from other brands as well as all Android TV and Google TV devices.
