Google’s standalone headset, positioned as a launch device for their new Daydream VR platform, is set to ship as early as November 15th.
Branded as the Daydream View, the wireless headset is now available for pre-order in the US for $79.
Billed as an upgrade on the company’s Google Cardboard, the View will
arrive in three different fabric finishes (Snow, Slate and Crimson) and
come packaged with a Daydream controller.
Daydream currently only works with Google’s new Pixel phone but
support for Samsung, HTC and Sony handsets is expected sometime next
year.
Given Google scrapped plans for their high-end VR headset back in
July, it looks like this is as big as they’ll go in the space for the
time being. Still, it’s markedly cheaper than Samsung’s GearVR and
unlike its competitors it doesn’t require you to plug your phone into
it.
No Australian availability details have been confirmed yet.
