Google has deleted its Australian Street View payload data, which it revealed last October including e-mails, URLs and passwords. The material, gleaned from unprotected Wi-Fi transmissions were collected – mistakenly, Google says – as its cars photographed Australian streets for use on its Street View service.”You may remember that our ultimate goal was to delete the payload data. We can report that this was completed in February under independent supervision,” Alan Eustace, Google US senior vice president of engineering and research, wrote in a Google Australia blog.
Google said it had also gutted its Subaru Imprezas street cars of the radio, Wi-Fi equipment and software used during its packet-sniffing roaming.
