SAN FRANCISCO – Google’s previously canned Glass eyewear project is getting a new lease on life – and a new name. The Glass team, now called Project Aura, has been
hiring engineers, software developers and project managers from Lab126,
Amazon.com’s hardware-focused research division, after it laid off dozens of
engineers.
Aura is overseen by Ivy Ross, who previously ran the Glass project.
The team is not only working on the next incarnation of Glass, but also
developing other wearable technology, according to job descriptions on
business-networking site LinkedIn.
Dmitry Svetlov, a software development manager who joined Aura in August from
Lab126, described the project as “Glass & beyond” on his LinkedIn
profile and said the team is “building cool wearables.”
