Google has unveiled a new logo designed for the mobile age, reflecting the increasing variety of devices used to access the internet. The Google logo has gone through a number of transformations over the last 17 years, with its latest look designed as a fit for all screens, from desktops to mobile phones. As Google notes, the world of tech has evolved in many ways since its beginnings as a desktop destination.
“Today we’re introducing a new logo and identity family that reflects this reality and shows you when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest screens,” Google stated via its official blog.
“As you’ll see, we’ve taken the Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk).”
The new logo retains the same distinctive colouring, while employing a custom, geometric sans-serif typeface.
The process behind its development is explained via the Google Design blog, which describes how Google started “by distilling the essence of our brand down to its core – four colours on a clean white background – and built it back up”.
“It doesn’t simply tell you that you’re using Google, but also shows you how Google is working for you,” Google states of the new logo.
“For example, new elements like a colourful Google mic help you identify and interact with Google whether you’re talking, tapping or typing. Meanwhile, we’re bidding adieu to the little blue ‘g’ icon and replacing it with a four-colour ‘G’ that matches the logo.”
Google states it will be rolling the new design out across its products soon.
