Google remains the dominant player in Australia’s Internet search engine market in Australia, according to a Roy Morgan survey.
In the January-March 2006 quarter, some 67 percent of respondents who had accessed the Internet before said Google was the search engine they mainly used, compared with 16 percent who said they used Yahoo.
Morgan claims the 67 percent is equivalent to 9.19 million Australian Google users. Yahoo users are put at 2.12 million.
Ninemsn was third with 14pc (1.9 million); BigPond (using Sensis technology) fourth with 7pc (748,000) and OptusNet fifth with 3pc (436,000).
The Morgan figures are based on polls of 91,700 people over the past four years.
