The new Motorola’s Moto X will be launched in Australia in late August or early September, Telstra is already testing the new device which comes with a small ‘M’ logo, on the back and no branding on the front of the device.
Branded by Telstra executives as a “breakthrough” product the device will go on sale in Telstra stores alongside the HTC One and the Galaxy S4 which are two of the most popular smartphones being sold today according to Telstra retail management.
Earlier this month Google chairman Eric Schmidt was caught using one of the new smartphones in public.The device will also be sold by JB Hi Fi.
The Moto X is the first device to be developed by Motorola after the Company was acquired by Google for $12.5 billion. Heading the global marketing for the new device is former Motorola Australia marketing manager Barry Smyth.
According to sources the Android OS is customisable with users able to set the device up to suite different needs at different times of the day.
The Moto X sports mid-range specs, despite the high-profile nature of its launch. It is said to centre on a 4.5-inch 720p display, and is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960T) chip clocked at 1.7GHz matched with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage.
Behind its detachable Kevlar rear shell is a 1500mAh battery. Its camera is also capable of automatically switching to HDR when optimal. Its Android OS is virtually stock, with no sign of Motorola’s former ‘Blur’ UI in sight.
