The Google Pixel Slate is now available for pre-order in the US on the Google Store as well as through certain retailers. It remains unavailable on the AU Google Store and Kogan lists the Pixel Slate as “Coming Soon” from the not so low price of $999.
The Pixel Slate US pre-orders are slated to ship in America on November 22nd when the Pixel Slate becomes officially available.
The Pixel Slate features a 12.3-inch screen with 3000 x 2000mp resolution, making it one of the most pixel-dense tablets at 293 ppi, beating out the 12-inch iPad Pro, the Surface Pro 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, all coming in at between 260 and 283 ppi.
There are five configurations of the Chrome OS tablet, two Intel Celeron powered models (4G RAM, 32GB storage; and 8GB RAM, 64GB storage), and three powered by Intel’s 8th Gen Core: M3 with 8GB RAM and 64GB storage, i5 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and the i7 with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.
It is the second tablet launched by Google, following the Pixel C which ran an Android OS, as Pixel Slate runs Chrome OS it supports Android and Chrome apps allowing for greater versatility on the device.
Google are encouraging the purchase of the Pixel Slate Keyboard (US$199) and the Pixelbook pen (US$99) in order to get the most out of the Pixel Slate.
Whichever way you slice it, the Pixel Slate is going to be expensive – Ausdroid have broken it down – either to import or wait for the release in Kogan, plus with Google having so many issues with the Pixel 3 and with the launch of Microsoft’s Surface Go at a much cheaper price of $599, it will be interesting to see if it makes an impression in the Australian market.
