The exclusive Google Pixel Bud real-time translation feature appears to no longer be an exclusive as it is now rolling out to all Assistant-enabled headphones on all Android smartphones.
The Pixel Buds did not make the same impact on the market that Apple’s Airpods did, however, their instant translate feature drew a lot of attention during the Made by Google event last year.
An update was spotted on the Pixel Buds’ Support page which now reads: “Google Translate is available on all Assistant-optimized headphones and Android phones” where it used to say “Google Translate on Google Pixel Buds is only available on Pixel phones.”
Previously, the feature required a Pixel or Pixel 2 phone, but should now be available on all android phones and Assistant-enabled headphones.
There’s been a huge increase in Assistant-enabled headphones released in the past 12 months, including models from Bose, LG, JBL, Sony, and more.
Also, reportedly, this new feature will even work on the USB-C Pixel Bud style earbuds included in the Pixel 3/3 XL box.
The translations will not be perfect, as anyone who has used Google Translate will be aware there is a lack of interpretation and more just direct translation, however, it can definitely be a benefit to users.
