October 5 which is a public holiday in Australia is d-day for the roll out of Google’s next major mobile OS, Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Whenever Google launches a new OS, it’s invariably its own Nexus devices that get the update first.
Canadian website Mobilesyrup has encountered a software release schedule from a local network operator revealing that the Nexus 5 and and Nexus 6 will received Android M on October 5.
If true, it seems a good bet that this is the designated release date for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Of course, it will take some time for other, non-Nexus phones to make the leap to the new OS. Custom UIs and network operator interference invariably hold back the update process for the rest by at least a couple of months – and often longer.
But it’s good to know that Google’s new OS is likely to be on its way less than a week after its debut on new Nexus hardware. Google is holding a special event on September 29, where it’s expected to launch two new smartphones – the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P.
As the naming suggests, the Nexus 5X will be a successor to 2013’s Nexus 5, while the Nexus 6P will be a follow-up to last year’s Nexus 6. However, while LG returns for the Nexus 5 follow-up, the Nexus 6P will be made by Huawei rather than Motorola.
