GoPro is set to showcase its Omni synchronised six-camera spherical rig in the coming weeks.GoPro states the Omni is decked out with a “synchronised six-camera spherical array that produces high-resolution, stunning image quality”, with the rig to be on display at NAB 2016 in Las Vegas.
Few details on the Omni, which is equipped with six Hero4 Black cameras, have so far been released.
GoPro states “proprietary hardware at the centre of Omni enables pixel-level synchronisation” between all the cameras.
GoPro last year unveiled its Odyssey 16-camera rig, made up of 16 Hero4 Black cameras.
“Virtual reality is a promising new innovation with incredible potential for commercial and artistic applications,” Tony Bates, GoPro president, commented at the time.
The Odyssey carries a price tag of US$15,000, with the Omni potentially appealing to a different market demographic.
The virtual reality market is poised for significant growth this year, with a steady procession of products being released, as it moves towards the mainstream.
GoPro is yet to announcing pricing or availability for the Omni.
