Gran Turismo 5 has hit 5.5 million copies sold in the 12 days since its release. The 13 year old GT franchise has sold over 60 million copies all up.The title is one of the most successful games and franchises as a whole for Sony who releases the game exclusively for the PlayStation 3, but goes up against the Call of Duty franchise which earns multi-billion dollar revenue.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 recorded first day sales in excess of US$300 million, equating to around 4.7 million sales and becoming the record-holder for highest opening-day entertainment sales.
Sony expects GT5 to be a console-pusher during the holiday season as one of the company’s flagship titles.
GT5 “will serve as a true driver of new console purchases” according to David Wilson, Head of PR at Sony’s UK division.
