Groupon which was recently valued at $25 Billion has won the right to their name in Australia.Daily coupon deal operator operator Groupon’s Australian arm, Stardeals, has won its claim to the groupon.com.au domain after winning a long-running dispute with Scoopon, and will rebrand Groupon as a result, reports advertising trade rag B&T.
B&T says Scoopon had purchased the groupon domain name in a preemptive strike on the US group’s launch in Australia, sparking a clash which had Groupon accuse it of cyber-squatting.
Stardeals, which launched locally in February, announced it had been granted the name, although B&T say details of the process are unclear.
“This is an exciting day for Groupon Australia,” commented Groupon Australia CEO, Patrick Schmidt. “The Stardeals brand will be discontinued, with all traffic redirected to groupon.com.au.”
