Digital photo frames allow you to play a slideshow of digital photos via an LCD screen. They come in different shapes and sizes but often with a limited set of features. We take a look at Nu’s 8-inch digital photo frame and see (literally) what it has in store.

The Nu 8-inch Digital Photo Frame comes in a black acrylic frame and comes with four memory card slots that can read SD or MMC cards, Compact Flash cards (CF), Memory Stick Pro/Duo cards, and xD Picture cards. It also comes with a USB port that can read files stored in flash devices or portable hard disk drives, as well as a mini-USB port for direct transfer of files from the PC. At the back of the frame, users can also find the power switch, brightness control, control buttons, and speakers for MP3 playback.
Users have two ways to display stored digital files onto the screen: one is to insert the memory card into its appropriate slot (including any flash drives or portable hard disk drives), while the other method entails file transfer via the USB connection. The photo frame has a storage capacity of 256MB, which is considerably small considering a lot of users have point and shoot cameras that have up to 10-megapixel sensors.
The displayed photo can be manually changed by pressing the left or right button (on the remote or frame), rotated 90 degrees clockwise, enlarged up to four times, copied to built-in memory, or deleted permanently. The screen’s brightness, contrast, tint, and colour can be adjusted according to taste, which may result to better looking photos. The LCD screen was able to display our photos vividly, with shots looking clear and crisp. We did, however, encounter some response issues with the remote, making it difficult for us at times to get it to work.
A user may be able to play MP3 music files or AVI videos stored on the USB device or memory card with its Music and Video function. It even comes with a Clock function that displays the date and time in case you want to stare at the time instead of multimedia files.

Overall, the Nu Digital Photo Frame is a product that can showcase your ‘works of art’ easily. It comes with a lot of memory card slots for easy camera to digital frame view, has an 8-inch screen for clearer and better photo view, and comes with a remote control for easy navigation. Just make sure that you have an external storage device with a lot of space to enjoy viewing thousands of photos.
