Following our exclusive story earlier today Harvey Norman has issued an email confirming that the Company is restructuring their electrical and computer division. The Company said in the email which was sent to franchisees that two new divisions are in the process of being created, both divisions will report to David Ackery, a senior director at Harvey Norman.
Earlier today Ackery did not return ChannelNews’ calls, shortly after our story appeared an email relating to the changes was obtained by 4Square Media.
The statement makes no mention of whether franchisees will be forced to take responsibility for new product categories as a leaked email to ChannelNews indicated.
Today’s email sent by Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page said the structural changes will come into effect on 2 April 2012.
The two new structures will comprise of a technology & entertainment division, to be run by Ben McIntosh whose title will be General Manager, and new home appliance division, which will be headed by Haydon Myers.
Both teams will be provided with product and marketing resources.
Earlier this month, Harvey Norman Chairman Gerry Harvey said that he was cutting back on consumer electronics and IT products in favour of “bedding and vacuum cleaner products”.
The comments by Harvey seem to be in conflict with his CEO wife Katie Page who said in the email today “Harvey Norman is the clear market leader in the electrical and computer industries. Evolution in our model and will ensure our market leading position continues”
“We must ensure that at all times, our model is aligned with the needs of our business partners, emerging technologies and emerging trends. Alignment under this new initiative will ensure our Franchisees can continue to offer their customers the very best shopping experience available.
“Harvey Norman, as always is looking forward to your continued support.”
