Android tablet makers as well as Apple, who have incorporated Mini DisplayPort to HDMI ports into their hardware are facing a major problem after a HDMI Organisation source said that the mini connection does not comply with HDMI spec.
Among the brands set to be hit is Apple with their Mac notebooks, Motorola with their Xoom tablet, Viewsonic, Acer and the likes of Cisco and Blackberry.
According to the HDMI Org tens of thousands of Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables are to be recalled because the cables do not comply. As a result the organisation that licenses the HDMI cable that banned the use of the device which is being promoted as the means to connect a tablet or thin notebook to a TV to get Full HD from a device to a TV.
HDMI claims that a lot of companies that are using Mini DisplayPort HDMI connectivity have not sought authorisation or paid a license fee which they have to do if they want to use the HDMI name on their devices.
A HDMI Org source said that they have approached several manufacturers requesting that the Mini DP plug that is currently built into devices be replaced with a socket for it to meet compliance regulations.
Toshiba is believed to be one of the few organisations to be compliant after they incorporated a full HDMI plug in their new A100 Tablet which went on sale this week in Australia.
