LG announced its newest LTE smartphone, the NFC-ready Optimus Tag.
Coming on the heels of Optimus, the world’s first HD LTE smartphone, LG has now hit with the Optimus LTE Tag, announced yesterday.

Under the hatch, the 4.3-inch IPS display Tag runs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread (upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich coming “later”).

The new Optimus gets its name from a unique, LG Tag+, feature which uses NFC (Near Field Communication) to communicate with special stickers or “tags” which automatically change the phone’s settings.

Swiping a tag upon entering the office puts the Optimus LTE Tag in silent mode and activate Wi-Fi. A tag on the car dashboard could be programmed to turn on Bluetooth, GPS and raise the volume. Pretty cool.

NFC is the next big thing to hit smartphones with the iPhone rumoured to be also offering the technology on i5 later this year.

Slim and sleek design, the Optimus LTE Tag is available in white.

Key Specs:

o Chipset: 1.2GHz Dure-Core processor
o Display: 4.3-inch (800 x 480) IPS
o Memory: 16GB eMMC
o Camera: 5.0MP with AF-LED Flash (Rear) & 1.3MP (Front)
o OS: Android 2.3 Gingerbread
o Battery: 1,700mAh
o Others: LG Tag+, MHL(Mobile High Definition Link), DLNA(Digital Living Network Alliance)

“Our goal is to offer the widest variety of LTE smartphones in the industry in 2012,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile.

“The Optimus LTE Tag isn’t just a cosmetically-enhanced version of Optimus LTE, it offers a truly innovative feature which we think really makes a smartphone smarter.”

So is Tag coming down Aussie way?

LG Australia would not give a straight answer either way but did say” “Tag has been developed for the Korean market and no further local product information will be provided.”

But a local spokesperson also added:

“LG is currently working on products that include both LTE (4G) and NFC technologies with our local operator partners and as relevant local information and products become available we will release up to date market information,” meaning a 4G ready device could hit soon.

LG have been busy bees of late. Just yesterday it announced a rival to Samsung Galaxy Note phablet, the 4G Optimus Vu.
